Ghazi Mumtaz Qadri Shaheed is the elite police commando who finished Slaman Taseer, the governor of Punjab obsessed with the blasphemy law 295C which maintains death plenty to culprits who try to disrespects the Holy Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. Mumtaz Qadri was born in 1985 to Qutab Shahi Awan family that is the descendants of the Rashidun Caliph Hazrat Ali Ibne Abi Talab through his son Muhammad Bin Hanifah. Mumtaz Qadri is the youngest son among 11 children of Malik Muhammad Basheer Awan.
There are many interesting incidents from the life of Ghazi Mumtaz Qadri described in a short booklet named “Ashiq-E-Rasool” by Ashraaf Bin Islam. It is described that Mumtaz Sb used to walk blindfolded on top of a 9 inches wide and five feet high wall on their roof. People would get scared to see this lest he fall but the dreaded never did happen. Ghazi Mumtaz completed his high school education from Aisha Lasani Public English Medium School, Muslim Town, Rawalpindi. Afterwards he enrolled in Swedish Technical College, Commercial Market for diploma in Electronics. During his studies he took induction test for Punjab Constabulary and eventually got selected in 2002. He was awarded 6990 as his service belt number. He was top performer in his batch and showed excellent marksmanship in tests including shooting while running and blind folded. Due to these qualities he was taken in elite force in 2008. He got married to his maternal uncle’s daughter on 27 December 2008 in a simple ceremony.
Mumtaz Qadri was really well behaved students throughout his life and kept away from fights. After matriculation exams he joined Dawat-E-Islami and started preaching Islam to others. He was very fond of reciting the naats (Poems to praise the Holy Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him) and often participated in the naat concerts. Mumtaz Qadri was down to earth and helping person. He used to do shopping on behalf of elderly woman. If he found some old person carrying heavy baggage, he would help in carrying it for them. There is a plot near his home where the garbage is thrown, to be later picked up by metropolitan collection trucks. Ghazi Mumtaz had asked the older woman to place their garbage outside their homes and he would pick and throw it out for them on his way to the office.
Ghazi Sb was famous as a very simple man of whom others would take advantage. He was very trusting and would accept excuses from others. He often recited Darood Sharif and Slam on the beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him. On 29 Feb 2016 he was judicialy murdered through an unfair trial, executed counter to the spirit of Islam and the constitutional foundations of Pakistan. Mumtaz Qadri’s lawyers were not given fair hearing. His judges were bribed. The sentence was handed over without the presence of legal counsel of Mumtaz Qadri in session court. The key witnesses were not presented and made part of the case. The hanging was done in a cowardice way. Death warrants were not handed over according to the legal practice. The family of Ghazi Mumtaz was kept in dark till the last moment and was summoned on false report the Mumtaz Qadri was not feeling well.
